Improving health at workplace

The improvement of workers' health has been defi ned in many ways. The World Health Organization (WHO) defi nes it on the basis of health promotion according to the Ottawa Charter 1986, which emphasizes a comprehensive and community- as well as context- based approach. This same approach is the basis for the European Network of Workplace Health Promotion (ENWHP)'s definition of Workplace Health Promotion (WHP) in the 1997 Luxembourg Declaration. Different countries have different concepts for these activities: for example Sweden's is “Quality of Working Life” (QWL) and Finland's the “Promotion and Maintenance of Work Ability” (PMWA).
