Psychologically mediated effects of the physical healthcare environment on work-related outcomes of healthcare personnel
Research has demonstrated that the physical healthcare environment can affect patients' health and well-being. However, the healthcare environment affects not only patients, but also the people that work in these environments: nurses and physicians. Any changes that are made to the physical healthcare environment in order to benefit patients (e.g. renovation of hospital wards) must either benefit or have neutral impacts on healthcare professionals. A review of the effects of changes to the physical healthcare environment on healthcare professionals was undertaken. Only one study was found which...
Posted workers in the European Union
This report examines the extent of the phenomenon of the posting of workers, the roles played both by European and national-level legislation in determining the employment and working conditions of posted workers and the roles played by legislation and collective bargaining – and how these two domains interplay. The report is in part an update of earlier work carried out in 2003 by Eurofound into the issue – not least, updating the findings with data from the new Member States, which had not joined the Union at that time. Importantly, the research looks at the possible implications...
Changing requirements and mental workload factors in mobile multi-locational work
Working in multiple locations creates continuously changing physical, virtual and social settings for mobile employees. This paper shows, by exploring locally and globally moving employees, that changing environments arouse varying perceptions of both well-being and stress. The identification of mental workload factors is necessary both for working in and managing mobile, multi-locational work. Trends in leisure-, transport-, and work-related physical activity in Canada 1994–2005
Background : In Canada, data show adults had a lower energy intake in 2004 than in 1972. Data also show adults expended more energy through leisure-time physical activity in 2000 than in 1981. On the other hand, the prevalence of overweight and obesity (combined) rose from 49.2% to 59.1% between 1978 and 2004. Employee reactions to office redesign
A naturally occurring quasi-field experiment in a multi-generational setting Outcomes associated with an office redesign aimed at decreasing workspace while enhancing perceptions of organizational culture and work-related attitudes are examined within a financial services organization. Findings show that employees assigned to the redesigned office environment report less workspace and more distractions than those who remained in a cubicle environment, but that this finding was moderated by age generation.
