WorkSafeBC Review and Action Plan Implementation Status Report Update

WorkSafeBC has fully implemented 23 recommendations of the WorkSafeBC Review and Action Plan, which was prepared by WorkSafeBC special adviser Gordon Macatee in July 2014. In addition, eight more recommendations are in progress and are on track to be completed as scheduled.

L'état de la France et du travail dans les 25 prochaines années selon le CESE

Quel sera le monde du travail à l’horizon 2030 ? Le Conseil économique social et environnemental (CESE) dresse, dans son rapport annuel de l’état de la France en 2014, quatre scénarios de futurs possibles du travail. Focus prospectif du travail de demain.
Les quatre scénarios illustrant ces futurs possibles ont été élaborés par la délégation à la prospective et à l'évaluation des politiques publiques, avec l’appui méthodologique de Futuribles et l’expertise tirée des auditions. Ils doivent permettre aux différents acteurs d’examiner ce qu’ils peuvent et veulent faire dans le cadre des futurs possibles proposés.

Managing Health and Safety in Fishing

The aim of this guidance document is to help improve standards of safety and health in the commercial sea/marine fishing sector. In an effort to aid prevention of accidents and ill-health among fishermen, this guidance document looks at the role of the Safety Statement in managing health and safety, the most common causes of death, injury and ill-health and gives basic information to help illuminate or control the risks involved in fishing.

A recipe for safety

Health and safety in food and drink manufacture
A recipe for safety is for everyone in the industry, including workers, supervisors, managers, directors, health and safety professionals and health and safety representatives. The guidance covers the main health and safety hazards in the food and drink industries and gives practical advice on how to manage the associated risks. It provides a ‘one-stop shop' reference document with links to more detailed guidance.
The food and drink industries comprise around 30 different manufacturing sectors such as bakeries, meat and poultry processing, drink manufacture, dairy processing, fish processing, chilled food production, vegetable processing and grain milling / animal feeds.

Z1000-14 - Occupational health and safety management

CSA Z1000 is applicable to organizations of all sizes, in virtually any industry. While your business may not pose clear or obvious risks to workers, every workplace has inherent risks that need to be effectively identified and managed to help keep workers safe.
Highlights of Z1000:
•Harmonized with other safety standards such as CSA Z1001 and Z1002
•Provides clarification of nonconformities with explanation of the distinction between “corrective” and “preventive” actions
•Guidance on worker participation in OHSMS-related activities, including involvement of health & safety committees
•Provides an expansion of the requirements for OHSMS management review and plans for continual improvement
•Addresses hazard elimination, risk identification and assessment and the concept of “residual risk” as that remaining after all controls have been implemented (ref. CSA Z1002)
•Provides competency requirements for OHSMS auditors (both internal and external)
•Details provisions and guidance for internal and external audits, including audit program components and selection of the auditor
•Introduces a new table detailing the corresponding clauses between Z1000 and the other standards in the Z1000 series (Annex D)
•Expanded procurement and contracting requirements

Second European Survey of Enterprises on New and Emerging

The second edition of EU-OSHA's Europe-wide survey of enterprises, ESENER-2, collected responses from almost 50,000 enterprises on OSH management and workplace risks, with a particular focus on psychosocial risks, worker participation, and drivers and barriers to action. The aim is to provide nationally comparable data to help in policy-making and assist workplaces to deal with risks more effectively. This initial analysis presents a selection of the results.

HSE Science Report 2015

In the 2014/15 financial year, the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) budget for commissioned research and technical support is ~£27m2. During this year, HSE has commissioned 123 new research and technical support projects, in addition to the 339 that were underway at the start of the year. It is expected that 243 projects will be completed within the year. Topics include: off-shore human factors assessments, enhanced methods for identification of Legionella, occupational asthma in cleaners, leadership and worker involvement in the ports industry and stainless steel stress corrosion cracking in process vessels and pipework.

Programme de travail de la Dares en 2015

Ce document rend compte des travaux de production statistique, d’études, d’évaluations, de méthodologie, de systèmes d’information programmés pour 2015 et au-delà. La Dares répond également tout au long de l’année aux demandes du ministre chargé de l’emploi et du travail et de son cabinet en réalisant des travaux ex ante ou ex post contribuant à la prise de décision. Elle poursuivra en 2015 sa participation aux nombreuses instances qui la sollicitent, en veillant à la bonne allocation de ses forces de travail.

The Role of Accounting in Work Health and Safety Governance

Currently there is a lack of standardised and accepted indicators to measure the work health and safety performance of organisations and businesses at the organisational level. Work health and safety information can and is being reported on a voluntary basis, however reporting is often selective and inconsistent. This hinders comparisons of work health and safety performance and due diligence reporting over time and across organisations.

These papers are a series of research papers that will inform a broader three staged policy development project taking place over the next three years. The aim of the project is to develop a standardised set of indicators businesses can use in annual reports as well as guidelines for the development of lead and lag indicators relevant to the size and nature of the business.
