Objective : To investigate the incentive for primary and secondary prevention associated with experience rating in a retrospective workers' compensation program. Methods : Panel data on 21,558 firms from 1998 to 2007 were used to estimate the relationship between the degree of experience rating and seven measures of workplace occupational health and safety outcomes. Resource Road Safety Assessment: Pilot Project on Mobile Mapping Systems
This project aimed to develop a new system for assessing the safety of resource roads. It investigated the efficiency of collecting road geometry data using a mobile mapping system, created software tools to automate the extraction of sight distances from road geometry data, and developed a final product to aid road managers in planning upgrades and making road networks safer. Developing a Remotely Operated Falling Wedge
Manual tree falling is considered to be one of the most dangerous professions in the forest industry. Many serious injuries and fatalities are caused by unseen debris falling from the forest canopy, which often occurs when a tree begins to move during falling. One way to improve the safety of manual tree fallers is to remove the worker from the base of the tree as it begins to shift. Ladder Use in Construction Guideline
Workers on construction sites continue to fall from ladders and become critically injured or killed. The Provincial Labour-Management Health and Safety Committee (PLMHSC) has prepared a guideline on safe ladder use in construction to assist workplace parties in understanding their obligations under the OHSA and its regulations.
